Running for Fun

01Feb08

I’ve never ever been one to ‘run for fun’…I thought at this point in my training, almost 4 weeks in (hard to believe, eh guys?) and I’m still not out there having ‘fun’.  The fun part for me is the return trip from each run.  If it’s an out and back, the back part is what motivates me.  If it’s a loop, the halfway point and beyond is where it’s at.  But I tell ya, that first half of each run there are a lot of questions going through my head.  “What the hell are you doing?”…”Isn’t there something else you’d RATHER be doing?”…”Who put the bomp in the bomp she bomp?”…”How did you let yourself get talked into this?”…ya know, stuff like that.  However, I’m still out there, putting in the miles, checking off the days, getting excited for Saturdays.  So, there’s something to all this that keeps me attracted, maybe the finish line at around noon on April 26th.  That might be it.  Maybe the fact that once this is all said and done I can say I did it.  Whatever it is, I’m glad it’s there and I’m thankful that it’s pushing me through the questions, especially the third one I listed above (haha).

2300-8501lightning-posters.jpgI must leave you all now…I know…I know…you don’t want me to, you want me to write for days, but that’s just not the way it’s going to be.  I have calculations to work on to find out of lighting protection poles need guy wires…I love you.

You’re doing great man, I’m glad you committed yourself to doing this with the rest of us. The satisfaction you’ll get from saying you ran a marathon and from saying you ran all those miles in the 16 weeks leading up to the marathon will answer all those questions you’re having. Plus it might motivate you to stick with it and to join me for an ultra in the fall/winter.
